Make It Count

We have all heard the phrase “make it count” but do we really know what it means.  When you hear the words make it count, you might be thinking that you should make your life count for something, focus on the positive and live each day to the fullest.   All of those phrases are true.  However, I want to offer a different perspective on making it count.

When I hear the words “make it count” I focus on three key areas, which are, resources, time and opportunity.   When  I think about resources, I want you to focus on the people that exist within your inner circle, and the talent and skills that you possess that support your goals.  Also, I want you to focus on the excitement and passion that you receive from helping others and the motivation that comes from making your life count.

When you think about time,  I want you to make sure you are not wasting time, but maximizing every moment.   When you maximize your time, you can focus on your goals, time with family, time for business, work or school, and time for serious self reflection.   You recognize the importance of time management, and you prioritize your tasks wisely.  Also, you recognize the need to volunteer your time to meaningful and purposeful pursuits and not wasteful meanderings.  The reason why I am hammering this point home is becuase, time is a precious commodity.  Understanding this fact, we should all examine how we spend our time as it relates to achieving our goals, and maximizing our living.   My mind goes to a famous quote, which states, “Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of.”- Benjamin Franklin.

Finally, I think about opportunity, and its relationship to preparation.   Opportunity allows you to do something.   The key to taking advantage of opportunity, is the preparation that takes place beforehand.  Therefore, as you think about the goals you want to achieve, ask yourself this question.  How am I preparing for my opportunities?  For example, if you own your own business, what is the elevator pitch that you will give when you run into a perspective client?  If you are looking for a new job, how can you define your skills, when asked by an interviewer.  If you are a minister, waiting to preach your next sermon, are you ready?

My mind goes to the workshops and courses I teach on leadership, human resources management, small business administration and leadership.   Without preparation, I would not be able to deliver training at the highest level, or at any given moment.   I had to prepare myself to take advantage of these opportunities.

As you navigate this year, I want you to focus on “making it count” by examining your resources, your time, and your opportunities.  When you maximize these three areas, you are opening the door to maximizing your living and “making it count.”

Best wishes for success,

Dr. Regina Banks-Hall

2018 Reflection, 2019 Focus

Hello everyone,

We are fastly approaching the end of the year, and it is important for all of us to conduct a year in review and celebrate our 2018 accomplishments and strategize for 2019.      Therefore, I want you to find a journal or notebook and list all the things you have accomplished this year, and the items you know you will accomplish by December 31st.   As you make this list and begin your review, ask yourself a couple questions?

  1.  What stands out as it relates to your accomplishment.
  2. What seemed impossible at the beginning of the year, but now is now on your list of successes.
  3. What were some of your biggest lessons.

As you begin to focus on the year ahead, think about December 31, 2019, and identify the goals you want completed.   When you identify the goals you want completed by the end of the year, you know what you must focus on throughout the year.

Finally, as we complete the year, I want you to take your lists of accomplishments and celebrate youself.   When you celebrate your accomplishments, you connect to your success, reflect on your mistakes,  remind yourself of your gifts and strengths, and most importantly, remind yourself that you are able to achieve what you desire.

If you would like to receive a blueprint for 2019 success, plan now to attend my local Achieving Success Workshop held on January 5, 2019 or our virtual Achieving Success Workshop which will be held on January 12, 2019.   Click on the following link and you will be directed to register for the upcoming workshop.

Leadership and You

Hello everyone,

Today, I want to talk about leadership and the importance of helping others.   Leaders are hard to find.   The great leaders exhibit charisma, vision, and character traits that attract people.  As leaders, one of our greatest gifts is our ability to build, empower, and coach the next generation of leaders.   When you think about the great leaders you admire, it is a good chance that part of your admiration was based on their ability to connect with others.

Another noticeable characteristic of great leaders is their recognition on the importance of empowering others.  Empowering people is a key to changing their lives.   Therefore, I want you to think about the people closest to you, and ask yourself a few questions.   How have you impacted them this year?   What teachable moments have you provided?   What is the legacy you want to be remembered for?   How will you help them reach new heights?   How can you share information with them, and give them what they need?

Attached to this message, is a video I want you to watch,  which describes how leadership can create a lasting impression.   After you watch this video, determine what steps are necessary to impact your family, your organization, your team, and most importantly yourself.   We all have an opportunity to impact the world, therefore, determine what steps you will take and let’s create a winning team.

Contact us to today, to learn about our upcoming 4-week leadership course which begins, January 7, 2019 entitled  “Maximizing Your Influence”.    It is time to create maximum impact.

Create Something You Love!!

Get Ready for 2019

Hello everyone,

Can you believe it, we are almost at the end of another year.  I took the time this weekend to identify all the goals I accomplished, and those still on my list.   I found that through faith and perseverance, along with my passion for speaking, coaching and teaching, I could not be stopped.   Today, if you are an experienced professional or new to the field, I want you to realize the impact of doing something you love.   I want to encourage you to fall in love with your dreams, hold fast to what you love and create something with meaning and purpose.  When you work a job you hate, your Sunday nights take on a whole new meaning, because you know what is coming in the morning.   However, when you are engaged in something you love, you find that when it is time for you to rest,  you are still energized and motivated.

Make a promise to yourself, to follow your dreams

Therefore, as we head towards the end of this year, make a decision to start where you are with your dreams.   Sometimes we can  become attached to our comfort zone and that keeps us from moving forward.  Therefore, as a strategy, I want you to start where you are, and begin to identify the reasons why you should write your book, start a business or nonprofit, go back to school, start a ministry, learn a language or take piano lessons.

When you identify the reasons why you should start where you are, you will see they outweigh the reasons for staying in your comfort zone.  Therefore, make a promise to yourself to identify something that you love and are passionate about, start where you are and step out of your comfort zone.  If you do, 2019 can be your breakout year of success and fulfillment.

Look beyond the wall

In a few days I will celebrate another birthday and I have taken some time to reflect on all the goals I accomplished this year.   As I reviewed this current chapter in my life, I recognized the impact of faith and the ability to see beyond the wall.  I also determined that one of my keys for success was positive thinking.

Let me share my version of a story I read, written by John Mason, a noted speaker and executive coach, with you.   A shoe manufacturer sends two salesmen to an Island to investigate and report back on market conditions.   The first salesman states, “no one here wears shoes, so there is no market potential, let’s look somewhere else.”    The second salesman calls back and says “there is massive potential here because no one here wears shoes; please send me some shoes right away.”   The story provides several examples.   The first example is one salesman lacked vision and could not see beyond what was in front of him.   The other salesman applied positive thinking, and looked beyond the current condition and saw opportunity.

When we are open to possibilities, we can expect greater success.  When we limit ourselves, we limit possibilities.   Every year, we add a chapter to the book which defines our lives, and it is up to us to add purpose and significance to our story.

When we operate from a point of limitations, we hinder our ability to achieve greatness.  As humans, we all may experience some setbacks, but it is how we respond to the setbacks that is extremely important.   As I evaluate my own chapter this year,  I had to look beyond the wall, and embrace possibilities.

Attached to this post, is a link to a podcast I released recently on, “Writing your story”.  Today, I want you to apply faith and look beyond the wall. Why? Because that’s where all the possibilities live.

How do you view success?

The word success often confuses people.   Some people view success by the car they drive, the house they live in, or the people that they know.  Others view success through the lens of their family, happiness, and purpose.  Success for individuals involves a daily unveiling of our lives, and must be defined by our own definitions.   When we define success by others, we allow them to dictate our success.  The key is determining what is important to you and charting a course to fulfill your vision and goals.

For me, I believe that the true meaning of success is not attached to cars, or houses becuase they are things.   We can acquire them and also lose them.   Think about it, how many of us know people with enormous wealth, who are extremely unhappy.   They believe that they are hiding how they feel by using their wealth.  However,  the people around them often can see right through their mask.

Many successful people focus on the impact provided to others, based on what they have created.   Some examples are non-profits, youth camps, education, support groups, job creation, training opportunities, and access to information that improves a person’s standard of living.    These endeavors are important, becuase the goal is to change the lives of others.    Therefore, think about your influence, how you communicate and connect with individuals.   Think about how you add value to yourself and others.    Think about how you want to be remembered.  When you become pleased with your answers, you are defining your level of success.   My closing thought is, that if we are able to live a happy life and make the world a better place, we have achieved success.

Fall Forward Your Purpose is Waiting for You.

Often people focus on past mistakes becuase they believe that the past controls the future.   They allow the memory of past failures to hinder their future.  However, mistakes and past experiences are often the best teachers.  Think about it, people who have never made a mistake in their life, may not have made anything else.   Think about some people you know that are picture perfect.  I have learned from my past failures, that it was important to pick myself up, learn from the experience and keep moving.   I was not failing, I was falling forward.

Failure is a situation that can be corrected if the person who has failed is willing to push forward.  Thomas Edison who failed hundreds of times before he invented the light bulb stated, “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”  Some of the worst phrases we can make are as follows:  I could, I should, and I would.   The reason for these sayings, connects back to a fear of failure.  Therefore, set a goal to uncover the valuable lessons learned from your failures, and try one more time.  Remember you are not failing, you are falling forward.

Daily Prompt: Noise

via Daily Prompt: Noise

pexels-photo-210794.jpegNoise by definition is a loud unpleasant or distributive sound to our hearing. This loud distributive sound can be made by a person or thing. It is interesting to think about because, when I was a child, we learned how to sleep through noise. We acquired this skill because there were too many of us in the house, and quiet time just did not fit with our environment. Thus, we learned how to sleep through storms, babies crying, loud music, dishes rattling, etc.

Now that I am grown, I’ve had to learn how to tune out noise, so that I can stay focused on my goals. My definition of noise today is people trying to hold you back from your dreams, fear of success, or doubt about your own skills. People ask a lot of questions about why you want to go back to college, start a business, take a self-improvement course, etc. We allow their comments and opinions to create fear and doubt within us, which hinders our success.

We have learned to tolerate this noise, but now it is time to go on the offense and counter it. In order to counter this noise, we have to find positive words to motivate ourselves daily. Read books that uplift and inspire us. And above all, find good mentors who will encourage us and motivate us to stick to our plans. When we can learn how to counter an unpleasant sound with something positive, we begin to take control of the issue. In the end, we acquire a positive skill, that allows us to manage our situation and stay on track toward success. Today, evaluate the noise in your life and determine what needs to change.

Branching out into a new direction.

via Daily Prompt: Branch

cherry-tree-fruit-nature-63312.jpegWe are in the third month of the year, and it is time to review your 2018 success plan.   I have found through one-on-one coaching sessions this year, that fear keeps us from moving forward.  Today, I want everyone to know that fear is an opportunity to create success.

In order to achieve our dreams, we have to consider ourselves a tree that is rooted in principle, purpose, and passion.   We have many branches on the tree, that allows room for growth.   Therefore, utilize the branches available on your tree, and expand your interests and activities into a new direction.  When we take a new direction, we begin to embrace, expand, and cultivate the gifts we have.   Branch out today in a new direction and watch yourself soar.   What new direction will you take today?
